Seasons in Cancer
Published in Paperback by Hollis Books (August, 2000)
Average review score:

A Different PerspectiveSeasons in Cancer is a profound book about a nurse and husband's experiences throughout the time his wife was being treated for breast cancer. Let me explain...the author of this book is both the husband of a breast cancer survivor and a registered nurse. The stories he writes in this book tell what he faced, both, on the job and emotionally in these two very different roles. This is a one of a kind book that cannot be duplicated anywhere else. Facing a life threatening illness such as this for 24 hours a day for over a year would be enough to break anyone's spirit. However, in his book, George, shows you that even though you are going through the worst of times, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. This is an excellent book for anyone to read because it intimately details just what goes on in the minds of family members when someone they love is diagnosed with just such a disease. Physicians, social workeres, nurses, and others who deal with this situation now have one more tool in their toolbox to give to their patients and to read for themselves.
A Most Excellent Work! This is one of the best recounts of a person, whose spouse is undergoing cancer treatment, their emotions and situations that have resulted from this disease. It is a great work and a testament to an indominatable human spirit.

Seiwa-en: A Garden of Pure, Clear Harmony and Peace
Published in CD-ROM by Outside-in (01 December, 1998)
Average review score:

Refreshing & InformativeAfter somewhat blindly and intermittently working on a Japanese style garden, it was great to get some perspective. Seiwa-en is a great encapsulation of what you may have read here and there, but never had put together. Since these gardens quite often depend on movement through a series of views/foci, the path-like nature of the navigation is perfect. Hopefully there will be a second edition to take advantage of more recent image technology.
Like being in the garden! What a wonderful experience to be immersed in the sights and
sounds of a Japanese garden right from my desktop! I felt like I was there walking the paths and crossing the bridges. I find that when I need a break from work I do on my computer- this CD-rom provides some much needed tranquility.

Sharpening the Sword
Published in Paperback by Council For Emerging National Security Affairs (04 May, 2002)
Average review score:

Expensive but worth the cost...Innovative thinking hereI am in the midst of some pretty expansive research on innovation in national security (at MIT) and after doing a search came upon Sharpening the Sword. With a bit of trepidation I paid the $25 and was pleasantly surprised to find what was inside the compendium. It addresses things as important as the unified command plan and prescient as unmanned aerial vehicles. Only part I didn't really enjoy were the sections that were Service specific. But overall an exceptional volume and well worth the cost.
On target & timelyThe editors and authors of "Sharpening the Sword" have achieved what few others have lately --- they manage to carefully and critically treat the questions of innovation in national security with an eye to the future. From the foreword by former Deputy Secretary of Defense John White to the last article on privatizing peacekeeping -- these are fresh new thoughts from experts who are looking ahead.

The Shepherd's Song: Finding the Heart to Go on
Published in Hardcover by Howard Publishing (May, 1996)
Average review score:

Shepherd then and nowThe Shepherd's Song is written in an engaging style making it easy to read. It brings scenes and events from David's life alive and then shows how the same struggles are ours today. This book takes you beyond seeing David as a dirty, shepherd boy watching sheep and writing songs to the man his own mighty men feared. The Shepherd's Song reviews David's failings and his restoration by God's grace when David turned in repentance and sought the Lord's will. In reference to David's adulterous affair, the author states we are a very deceptive people--how often does the phone wake you and you tell the other person "no you didn't wake me."
This is a good book for independent reading. At the back of the book discussion questions are divided by chapter, so Sunday School classes or small groups could use it as a study.
For those who want to develop a Godlike heart.I read this book nearly two years ago and based a Sunday School adult class on the practical lessons each chapter contains. One of the most popular classes at our Church. The reader comes to understand how a man who sinned so grievously, time after time could be reffered to by God himself as "a man after my own heart". By discovering how God could possibly see David as a man after God's own heart, the reader comes to understand that he too can have a God like heart even though he makes mistakes.

This superb book will save you time, money, and frustration.Written mostly for Army personnel, this book contains valuable information pertinent to all of the military services. This book is the complete guide on how a soldier, and other military personnel, can take advantage of special programs to earn college credits for associate's and bachelor's degrees. The book contains lists of participating schools as well as information on: college credits for military experience, college credits by examination, distance learning programs (DANTES), Servicemember Opportunity Colleges (SOC), nontraditional postsecondary institutions, internet, video, and telecourses, as well as educational benefits and financial help. This guide even includes complete appendixes listing accreditation agencies and major active-duty CONUS and OCONUS education centers. This book is a must-have for all military education centers and any servicemember truly interested in furthering his or her civilian education.
A must-read for military personnel seeking a college degree!I searched a long time to find a book about how to complete a college degree while serving in the military. My search ended two months ago when I found this book and after only a few pages I realized that I had hit the jackpot. In addition to being the only book I could find on the subject of a college education for active duty military personnel, this book is outstanding. It is packed full of useful information, advice, tips, and shortcuts. It is, beyond a doubt, the best $12 I have ever spent. If the proof is in the pudding then this book has definately proven itself. Using the information in this book I have already completed the requirements (at an accredited and proven college) for my AA Degree and I am well on my way to completing my BA Degree. This book made all of this possible in just two months. Thanks to this book I have saved both time and money. Best of all, I did it all while on active duty in the Army.

"Soldiers, Sailors, Slaves and Ships" Highly Recommended!A wonderful book - full of remarkable photographs accompanined by vivid and intriguing text. Moore's camera captures the complexities of the Civil War admirably and also explores aspects of the war frequently overlooked by other sources. A surprisingly enjoyable read.
Vivid, unusual pictures from the Civil WarThis is a jewel of a book. The photographs, beautifullyreproduced, show daily life in South Carolina during the Civil War. You see soldiers at rest in front of their tents, sailors on ships, slaves on plantations. The pictures and the graceful explanatory captions make history come alive in a poignant and moving way. It's extraordinary that such a meticulously researched book is ... [inexpensive].

Solving the Mystery of the Biblical Flood
Published in Hardcover by Xlibris Corporation (November, 2001)
Average review score:

The flood and how it happened. This is a very unique book, that for the first time puts forth a new theory on how a recent global flood as described in the Bible may have occurred, that is both plausible and scientifically sound. The author treats Noah's flood as a scientific mystery story which he then proceeds to solve by examining the clues found in the geological record and human history, building a theory that is in harmony with the biblical record of an earth wide deluge and with what we know about the geology of the earth. In this detailed and well referenced book, common objections to the biblical deluge are examined and answers are found that satisfy both a literal interpretation of scripture and a scientific examination of the facts. This book is compelling as the author proves what many have come to view as mere myth, is actually a historical event well supported by scientific evidence. The author also presents the results of his research on detecting recently deposited micro marine fossils left by the flood in soil samples. Presenting solid Paleoclimatological evidence of the deluge, this book may require rewriting many currently used textbooks. Sure to be considered very controversial, this is a must read for any one interested in geology or the biblical deluge. Written for the general public and the more geologically inclined as well, this book is a seamless merging of a literal reading of Genesis with what geology knows about the earth. 305 pages, 20 B&W illustrations, index.
Best available book on how the Flood happened. This book really does solve the mystery of the flood. It is basically a geology book that proves the earth has had a recent earth wide flood as described in the Bible.

The Sons: The Judgment, the Stoker, the Metamorphosis, and Letter to His Father
Published in Paperback by Schocken Books (August, 1989)
Average review score:

Daddy Dislikes My DietWhat happens when one imposes meat-eating on the other? What happens when the one doing the imposing happens to be your own father? And what happens when such carno-terrorism--to borrow from Jacques Derrida--becomes allegorical, representative of an inability to speak? In "Letter to His Father," Franz Kafka (a self-championing vegetarain harboring something akin to a body dismorphic disorder) coughs up a catalog of paternally-driven injustices and imagines a gastronomic utopia inimical to Daddy's sadistic table regime. Often overlooked, "The Letter to His Father" belongs right up there with Kafka's other canonized marvels. Go ahead and chew on it for a while.
A Letter to my FatherA Letter to my Father by Franz Kafka is a look into the mind of one of the most talented (but also unhappy) writers of the 20th century. It's a very personal account of the relationship between Kafka & his father, his strong, controling, tough father who was the main figure who influenced Kafka's life & way of thinking. Franz Kafka talks with great pain in this 'letter' about his childhood years & how his father controlled everyone in the household, how the writer's own personality was shaped & molded by this one relationship. After reading this letter, the reader is closer to understanding the person that wrote "Metamorphosis" & "The Judgment".

The Soul of Ministry: Forming Leaders for God's People
Published in Paperback by Westminster John Knox Press (August, 1997)
Average review score:

A Completely OTHER Kind of Leadership Book!"What is ministry?" That is the question Ray Anderson uses to begin his book, The Soul of Ministry. From that simple beginning flows Andersons profound insights into ministry starting with "Ministry As Theological Task".
The first four chapters of the book build the theoretical base for the rest of the book. The reader is introduced at this early point to the specialized vocabulary of Anderson's theology of ministry: Inner logic, praxis, telos, poiesis, discernment, and theological antecedent. Not that these are new terms, but Anderson refines them in a way that allows us to see an important point: "All ministry is God's ministry from the very beginning."
Thought provoking and empoweringRay Anderson writes with great passion. His theology is very pastoral and empowering. I would plead with all that find themselves in ministry to read this book. A great balance is struck between practical applicable ministry and though streching theology.
